Album Review: Character by Rachael Sage
American singer-songwriter and musician Rachael Sage has a new full-length album entitled ‘Character’ for your listening pleasure. Having shared stages with Howard Jones, Jamie Cullum and John Barrowman to name but a few, Sage has recently undergone a difficult time in her life with a life-changing Endometrial cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery period.
The album begins with ‘Blue Sky Days’ and ‘Bravery’s On Fire’ – the latter of which is a revelatory track explaining her journey with such grace. ‘Damaged’ is quite psychedelic in moments and is refreshing alongside the melancholy material.
Sage’s lead vocal on ‘Cave’ has a lush, opulent tone.
To summarise, has Rachael Sage been able to answer the question which started all of this -‘What comprises character?” Through the medium of song she has been able to touch on ideas of compassion, optimism and gratitude – human character elements developed by experiencing the lemons and lemonade of life.
