Maverick’s Accordionist Michael Guerra set to release “Spread The Love,” his first single since 2012

“With the Maverick’s Summer schedule heating up, Michael Guerra is set to unleash his new band, The Nights Calling and their first single “Spread The Love” on the world this summer.”

The much anticipated new release from Michael Guerra and his new band The Nights Calling is just around the corner. This is the second solo effort for the multi-talented Guerra, most notably a longtime member of The Mavericks since their reunion,. The first, the eponymous Michael Guerra Band, shot up to #23 on the Texas Charts and #27 nationally and was the only independent artist ranked that high. The debut went on to win the Tex-Mex/Tejano Band of the Year at the 2013 Fox Music USA Awards in Houston, Texas.

“Spread the Love” has been a work in progress around the busy touring schedule of The Mavericks, but Guerra began working in earnest on the new material in 2016 with his new band, The Nights Calling. Guerra also collaborated again with longtime writing partner and co-founder of their media company DB Media Entertainment, D.R. Pedraza, and the record was completed in May of 2018. The record was recorded at Blue Cat Studios in San Antonio and co-produced/edited by famed Producer Niko Bolas in Los Angeles. The record is mastered by Richard Dodd. The first single will be out this summer and the rest of the record a bit later.

The new music is a walk thru time with the musical influences of Guerra clearly shining through from beginning to end. It has to be said that the backing band, The Nights Calling (Junior Jasso – bass guitar, Will Owen Gage – lead guitar, backing vocals, Robert Casillas – bajo sexto, background vocals, Armando Aussenac – drums and Lauro Torres – percussion,) are as tight an outfit as you’ll find and they shine throughout the record. The album hearkens back to a time when artist’s were allowed to “do what they do” and produce the music coming out of their souls. No cookie cutter here, folks. This album is hard to define but glorious to listen to, and much like Guerra’s idol, Doug Sahm’s music, each track is a groovy party in and of itself.

Guerra once again proves that his music prowess should be considered one of Texas’ best music exports going these days. Not only does he incorporate his musical influences into his own fluid style but, and especially in the case of Sahm, he honors them by helping continue their legacy, and he does it with class as he continues to solidify his own mark in Texas Music.
