My name is Riah Dawn and I am a singer and songwriter from Boston MA. My song, “Count Me in”, was written while reflecting on being a Hispanic and African American child who was adopted into a Caucasian family. Growing up constantly dealing with an identity crisis and trying to fit in with those around me, and white culture in general, was extremely challenging and truly shaped who I have become.
As I grew older, I began creating relationships with my biological parents which really made me realize that there is so much more to myself than being an adopted child who grew up in poverty. I was no longer “The black girl with a white mom and no father”. I have grown into a strong woman who never needed to be defined by culture, color, or social-economic class. All the music I create is inspired by experiences that I either have witnessed, endured, or struggled with. Because of this, I have been able to create inspirational songs with catchy melodies such as my upcoming single ‘Count Me In’. ‘Count Me In’ is my second ever single that is set to be released on February 26th, 2021. I aspire to inspire millions of other Women and Men that being different is to be unique; and to be unique, is a gift, not a setback.
As an adopted child, Riah Dawn immediately realized that music was her distraction from the adversity she faced. This Boston-born Singer/Songwriter creates music based on experiences and people around her. Riah Dawn was heavily influenced by her uncle who was a city-known rapper and created a studio in her childhood home. She would watch him create music for hours, which eventually led to her singing on his tracks and writing music on her own. There are no subjects off-limits for Riah Dawn as she discusses how the effects of Drug Abuse, Mental Health, Immigration, LGBTQ acceptance, and Adoption led to the realization of Self-love, Confidence, to becoming more vigilant of what goes on around her and in her community. Riah Dawn’s passion for advocating for those unable to, and ability to tackle heavy topics and turn them into catchy melodies while simultaneously creating awareness, is really only an introduction to this Singer/ Songwriters talents.
In June of 2019 Riah Dawn recorded her Debut Single, The Tea, which she released a few months later. Riah Dawn is working on an EP that is only an introduction to all the hard topics that she will continue to bring attention to. Riah Dawn has been featured in the Singersroom.com Music Blog and has been interviewed and featured by The Face Behind The Brand. Riah Dawn hopes to continue to inspire, guide, and touch listeners’ souls throughout all of her music. Riah Dawn is surely going to demand the music industry’s attention in 2021.
