James Billett brings us political folk with ‘What Will They Say About Us’
James Billett has followed up ‘Faith Over Family’ with his second track, ‘What Will They Say About Us’, which tackles the topical issue of police brutality and racism.
Never one to shy away from sensitive and controversial topics, Billett has used his platform previously to speak about homophobia with his breakout single, ‘Faith Over Family’ (which gained him attention from Clash Magazine amongst other renowned publications).
Now, with ‘What Will They Say About Us’, Billett once again uses his lyrics to shine a spotlight on the marginalised communities and poetically makes the case for racial equality in the world, whilst lamenting the loss of so many Black lives. Speaking about the issue in terms of the cyclical nature of humanity’s mistakes, Billett says “As the story repeats/History weeps as we do it all over again,” In releasing this single, Billett has partnered with Black Minds Matter UK and is donating the proceeds from this single to the charity, who aims to provide essential mental health care for Black families all over the UK.
