KPAC student radio at Pacific was put “on the air” during the Fall of 1991. It was originally launched as AM 530, and in October 1992, also became a cable radio signal on Channel 2 of the campus cable system. In 2002, the station switched to FM on the frequency 89.7 (it was moved to 91.9 in 2009). KPAC began streaming online at kpac.pacific.edu in 2005.
With a generous grant from then Pacific Regent Ralph Guild, this student radio station was created to give students hands-on training in broadcast, to provide managerial experience in media, and to serve as an outlet for self expression on campus. From year to year, students have determined programming, performed community service, and used the station as a source for marketing and communication projects.
For 2 decades now, KPAC has been operated by the students and for the students of Pacific.
