The Decca 4 Generations Project
Marc Freeman Releases “Smoovi,” First Single From Decca 4

Atlanta, Georgia— June 6, 2019 — Today, Marc Freeman announces the release of the first single from his highly anticipated Decca 4 Generations Project. “Smoovi” is set to go public on Wednesday, June 12. Freeman is the founder of iMAJN Music and a national member of “Innovation Making a Joyful Noise (IMAJN). The single will be available on Apple music, Google Play, Amazon.

The Decca 4 Generations is about 4 composers from 4 generations for all generations. When the full project is released later this summer, the musical-visual concert will reveal an amazing collection of compositions kept under lock and key for decades. Freeman’s compositions are a blend of historical fusion featuring live artists performing what can best be described as an homage to Freeman’s heritage.

Freeman’s great uncle was J.C. Higginbotham, a jazz trombonist who played and recorded with many of the premier swing bands of the 1930s and ’40s, including Fletcher Henderson, the Mills Blue Rhythm Band, Benny Carter, Red Allen, Chick Webb, and Luis Russell. He later went on to play with Louis Armstrong and also led his own bands in Boston and Cleveland. Freeman’s Aunt Irene Higginbotham wrote songs for the likes of Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole in the 1930s and ’40s. And later also wrote for Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Coleman Hawkins, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Peggy Lee, Louis Jordan, and Duke Ellington. Freeman’s Aunt Irene was a pioneer of Boogie Woogie music, and in 1944, published a songbook titled Boogie-Woogie-Land.

“I never knew why melodies would put me to sleep or wake me up in the middle of the night, ever since I was young,” said Marc Freeman, musician, composer, producer, and owner of iMAJN.
“I really believe my grandfather had a vision that his younger brother and his oldest daughter would one day tell their stories in song. Somehow, while holding me at 8 months, he spoke it into me before he passed away months later. I knew that Decca (To Navigate/Synchronize) would one day be my journey. Today I will share it with everyone.”

When the full production is assembled and offered to the public later this summer, audiences will be treated to throwback imagery on a huge backdrop screen that transforms seamlessly into live musicians on stage paying homage to Freeman’s recently discovered heritage.

Founded in 2014, iMAJN’s Marc Freeman’s inaugural gift to fans and friends who have been moved or influenced by generations of music lovers and musicians who will hear, see and feel the power of what happens when the present looks to the past to create something new and special. This is the release of many to come by Freeman, and everyone is invited to enjoy the ride of discovery and sharing that are both Marc’s history and destiny. “IMAJN is not who I am, it’s what I do,” said Freeman. “I use innovation to make a joyful noise and spread good tones and message that the Good Lord has inspired.”
