TORONTO ELECTRONIC ARTIST 8KNOW8 RELEASES “PANDEMIC” EP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO – APRIL 1, 2020

Recording artist Polly (Paul) Vernon (Nordic Nomadic, The Silver Hearts) suddenly released their first proper EP as a solo act under the name “8know8” on April 1, 2020.

Entirely conceived and produced during their second week of self-isolation at home, this EP was a product of a quarantine in every way.

“I wasn’t supposed to have this time,” Polly says. “I had just finished recording the LP [the forthcoming “Destabilizer” on 8know8 records] and we had started the mixing process, I was supposed to go do a movie for a couple of months and make some money to pay for the record. Then the film went down due to the Pandemic and I was suddenly at home alone with my cats. These songs came to me from this experience.”

The five songs on the EP were written and performed by 8know8 on March 27 and 28 2020 in their apartment in Toronto on a Roland JUNO-DS, an Arturia MiniBrute, an Alesis SamplepadPro, and an early 20th century Ontario piano. It was engineered, mixed and mastered by Polly Jean Vernon with the help of a Zoom f8, T-RackS, and his neighbours’ internet connection.

This album departs from the usual 8know8 experience; the usual drum kit and synth combo have been reduced to suit the conditions of the quarantine. Like many musicians, Polly is unable to access any rehearsal rooms or recording studios due to the Pandemic. As such, the drum kit is out and the piano and shakers are the only acoustic percussion.
