Sri Joydip Ashram, a NGO participant of the United Nations Global Compact Program, organized a webinar “ Yoga the best Humanitarian Aid in Global Pandemic ” in International Yoga Day 2020. The key resource person of the webinar was Mehmet Ihsan Kalkan, an International Humanitarian lawyer from Istanbul, Turkey.

“Yoga the best Humanitarian Aid in Global Pandemic” is an initiative, to make the citizens and students across the globe more aware about how yoga could be a tool for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals “3” of health and well being of the world and how it could be used as a Humanitarian Aid in these days of Global Pandemic.

Talking to media, Mr. Mehmet Ihsan Kalkan who has decades of experience working with the UN on refugees and disabled people said “ Yoga is a wonderful tool which creates equality between races, culture, nations and so does the legal process of protecting the human right. But everything is not possible legally, and people, have to change internally and become more responsible, and they will be able to protect their rights. Even Nations have to be more responsible. I think China, as a Nation, has done a great amount of irresponsible behavior and negligence in this time of the global pandemic, which helps the whole thing to spread in such a mammoth proportion, and it is a crime against humanity, and I have filed a petition in International Criminal Court, in Netherland, to make china more accountable. At the same time, I think, the need of the hour is to treat yoga as a best humanitarian aid, towards the Sustainable Development Goals “3” of health and wellbeing of the world, in between the mammoth public health crisis around the globe.

Author and Gyan Yoga Teacher, Sri Joydip, who is also the founder and Managing Trustee of Sri Joydip Ashram remarked “Sri Joydip Ashram has been working with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal “3” for creating “health and wellbeing of the world” and Sustainable Development Goal “17” building partnership that could help to attain SDG3, and at the same time actively participating in United Nations Global Compact program using its Innovative Yoga Programs as a tool for attaining SDG3. However, the global pandemic created unprecedented challenges for Sustainable Development Goal “3”, and so we need more global solidarity, and we are happy to have Mehment Ihsan Kalkan, in our webinar on International Day of Yoga 2020, who has done commendable work, on protecting human rights and create equality, by helping refugees and disabled people across the world”.
